Tina's Story
Tina has recently suffered a serious blow and her story can instruct all of us who question our value.
Owner and primary artist of her own successful design firm, Tina recently had the best financial year
of her career. She was working as she says “24/7” and had to bring in other designers to help
her create and complete the huge amount of work. Happily buzzing along, receiving accolades and huge paychecks, Tina felt that all was right with the world.
After about a year of thriving prosperity, she almost accidentally discovered that her bookkeeper had been
embezzling from her, and by the time Tina caught it she was missing $90,000.00.
Shocked, she confronted the woman, who admitted her guilt without contest. Tina prosecuted the
case and the woman was found guilty, but the money was gone. As her punishment the former bookkeeper was fined and
must repay the money she stole, but Tina knows that it is a pipe dream to wait for the repayment money.
She finds herself in a position that is shared by more people than we ever realize. Most crimes of this sort
are not reported, and in those that are, the perpetrators often get off. So the number of white
collar crimes of this type grow exponentially every year.
Her adversity is undeniable, and now she works through the layers and layers of lessons that embezzlement has provided.
One of the biggest lessons for Tina was in the area of value. She undermined her own value in several ways—by completely
trusting the bookkeeper to handle the bills and deposits and banking because she felt too busy to take care of the money
matters. She placed her own value as an artist higher than her value as a financially successful businesswoman.
She works with a therapist and many alternative healing professionals to help understand and heal the
issues of this irritant. Already she has had some break-through as she sorts through her priorities in life and
realizes that money isn't that important. As she says, “If they were going to take something that big, thank goodness it was only money.”
When Tina placed it alongside matters of health, love, or family, money lost it's extreme importance. Once it lost it's
importance, she was able to clearly evaluate her life by realizing that she was spending a huge amount of her time and
energy on career, yet deep down she knew it wasn't the most important part of her life. That
understanding started the healing and the formation of the exquisite and valuable pearl her life is free to become.
