Pandora's Story

Pandora, our dear friend and licensed massage therapist, woke up one morning last week with excruciating lower back pain. She called her doctor and described the symptoms and he suggested that she rush to the emergency room at the local hospital.

She was hesitant to go because she didn't have medical insurance and thought she might be able to tough it out at home. Suddenly the doctor said to her on the phone “It would be like somebody named Joe not taking care of his ruptured appendix.”

Pandora gasped aloud. “How did you know?” she demanded.

“Know what?” the doctor asked.

“How did you know that my ex-husband, named Joe, just died a few days ago of a ruptured appendix?”

In that moment Pandora knew that the message was for her to get herself to the hospital. She was rushed to emergency, treated for a dangerously infected kidney, and passed several kidney stones. The doctor told her that if she hadn't gotten in when she did, she would have died.

How do you explain something like that? A message from the dead, a voice from beyond, a miracle to save her life? It doesn't matter how we interpret the experience; it happened, she lives, and we are all so very grateful. Life from potential death... that is a very dramatic illustration of art from irritation. But Pandora is a very exciting and dramatic woman. She lives a concentrated life, filled with life force and enthusiasm. It makes sense that her healing lessons would come in very passionate and intense slices of life.
